Managing Strips

Each Breakdown Sheet in your Schedule has a corresponding Strip, and every Strip is available in each Stripboard.

Usually, the Strip for a given Breakdown Sheet will be added to the currently active Segment of the currently active Stripboard when it is created. It displays after the previously selected Strip or at the end of the Segment. Your currently selected Strip is indicated with a highlighted border with an arrow in the left margin.

Note: Double-click any Strip to go to its Breakdown Sheet.

For Stripboards that are not currently active, Strips corresponding to new Breakdown Sheets will be added to the end of the Boneyard.

You can select multiple Strips by holding down CTRL (on Windows), CMD (on macOS), or SHIFT while clicking on the Strips.

Moving Strips

To move Strips within a Segment:

The most common method of moving Strips in Movie Magic Scheduling is to select one or more Strips and then drag them with your mouse. Selected Strips are outlined. Your target area for where to drop the strips is marked by a line.

To move Strips you can also:

  1. Select the Strip(s) to move. Right-click on a selected Strip(s) or click while holding CTRL on macOS. Select CUT.
  2. Select another Strip in your current Stripboard.
  3. Right-click on the selected Strip or click while holding CTRL on macOS and select PASTE.
  4. Your cut Strip(s) will be moved below the selected Strip.

Note: You can also use the hotkeys CTRL + X on Windows or CMD + X on macOS to cut the Strips then CTRL + V on Windows or CMD + V on macOS to paste them.

Move Strips to other Segments

To move Strips to another Segment:

  1. Select the Strip(s) you want to move. From there, you can:
    1. Cut the Strips, move to the new Segment, and then paste. Go to steps.
    2. Or right-click the Strips and select Move To and select the new Segment.
    3. Or Use the Move To option in the menu at the top of the Stripboard and select the new Segment.

Sorting Strips

To sort the Strips in a Segment:

  1. Click the SORT option in the menu at the top of the Stripboard.
  2. Choose a Scene Header field to sort by. If needed, you can click + SORT RULE to add another field as a secondary sort. Add up to three sort rules.
  3. Click SORT. The system will do the following:
    1. Move all Banners to the top.
    2. Remove Day Breaks.
    3. Sort the Strips in ascending order based on the alphanumeric contents of the sorted fields.

The private beta of Movie Magic Scheduling has an alphanumeric sort rule. Future versions will treat Scene Numbers more effectively with an understanding of common Scene Numbering patterns.
