Release Notes

Movie Magic Scheduling 10.13a (June 11th, 2026)

Feature Update for New Movie Magic Scheduling 10

  • DOOD Multi-Level Sort

    • Find Patterns Without Scanning: Sort the Day Out of Days vertical view by up to four rules at once instead of reading the report row by row.
    • Stack Rules to Answer Real Questions: Combine fields like Board ID, then First Working Day, then Element name to read resource distribution in one pass.
    • How It Works:
      • The SORT control in the DOOD toolbar opens a dialog where you set up to four sort rules. Fields: Board ID, Element name, First Working Day, Last Working Day, Worked Day, and Held Days. Each rule has its own order, such as 1 → 9, A → Z, or Earliest → Latest.
      • A field chosen in one rule is removed from the field list in the rules below it. CLEAR resets the dialog and is active once a rule is set; CANCEL closes without applying.
      • Elements with no value for a sorted field move to the end. Equal values keep their original order. The sort applies for the session, clears when you close the schedule, switch Sub-Boards, or leave the DOOD tab, and is not saved to the file.
      • Sorting applies to the vertical view only.
  • Shoot Day Designer in Reports

    • What You Design Is What Prints: The Board's Shoot Day designer now lives in Reports, so banners and shoot day layouts hold their position when you print.
    • Sunrise and Sunset Travel With the Strip: The same Day Break and Shoot Day fields available on the Board, including Sunrise and Sunset, are available in Reports.
    • How It Works:
      • Set TYPE to Shoot Day in the report designer to configure the Shoot Day strip, matching the Board designer. A banner placed under a shoot day reproduces under that day in the printed report.
  • Built-in Category Data in Elements and Reports

    • Usage Data in Elements: Page count and Days count appear for Elements mapped to a Built-in Category, with occurrence values corrected to match the source data.
    • Complete Element Detail Report: Scenes, Sets, Location, and Episode now appear for Built-in Category Elements, matching the coverage for user-defined Categories.
    • How It Works:
      • The Elements table Built-in Category section shows Page count and Days count alongside existing fields. Empty fields show an empty state.
      • The Element Detail report retrieves and displays Built-in Category fields (Scenes, Sets, Location, Episode) for Built-in Category Elements.
  • Fixes

    • A strip copied from Board-1 / Sub-Board-1 now lands in the Board-2 Boneyard when pasted into Sub-Board-2.

Movie Magic Scheduling 10.13 (May 21st, 2026)

Feature Update for New Movie Magic Scheduling 10

  • Strip Designer Improvements (MMS6 Parity)

    • Match the Use Case to the Output: Bigger fonts for on-set prints, denser layouts for the office monitor, dotted lines for tentative scenes.
    • MMS 6 Layouts Without Workarounds: Dotted line styles and four-row strips reach feature parity with MMS 6 conventions.
    • How It Works:
      • Font Size dropdown now offers Medium, Large, and X-Large alongside Default, Small, and X-Small.
      • New LINE STYLE dropdown lets you choose Solid or Dotted. LINE STYLE is disabled when LINES is set to None.
      • Strips support up to four rows of fields, up from two.
      • Select Shoot Day from the Type dropdown for a dedicated Shoot Day designer, which defaults to a black background with white text.
  • Customizable Day Break Banners with Sunrise and Sunset

    • Shoot Day Banners, a New Strip Type: 10.13 introduces Shoot Day banners alongside Day Breaks and lets you customize what appears on either banner.
    • Daylight Boundaries on the Board: Sunrise and Sunset appear on standard Strips as well as Day Break and Shoot Day banners, without cross-referencing a separate document.
    • Banner Content You Choose: Add or remove fields instead of living with the fixed set of End of Day, Date, Total Pages, and Estimated Time.
    • Times Enter Once, Appear Everywhere: Sunrise and Sunset entered on a Breakdown Sheet flow to that day's Strips and banners automatically.
    • How It Works:
      • Row 2 of the Breakdown Sheet now includes Sunrise (HH:MM, 00-11) and Sunset (HH:MM, 12-23) fields in 24-hour format.
      • Sunrise and Sunset are now selectable in the Strip Designer's standard Strip field list. With Day Breaks or Shoot Day selected, the Available Fields panel also includes Sunrise, Sunset, Custom Text, Screen Time, Space, and Element Quantity.
      • On banners, the displayed value is the earliest Sunrise and the latest Sunset across all Breakdown Sheets on that day. With no values entered, the banner shows 00:00.
  • Board Enhancements (MMS6 Parity)

    • Copy Shoot Strips: Shoot strips now have their own dropdown copy option. Use the dropdown's Copy and Paste, or CMD+C / CMD+V on macOS (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V on Windows), to duplicate shoot strips the same way you copy banners and Day Breaks.
    • Precise Insertion: Insert daybreaks and banners above or below the strip you selected, not only in one direction.
    • Control What's Visible: Show or hide Total Strips, Banners, and Shoot Day strips independently using the new VIEW dropdown.
    • How It Works:
      • Right-click a shoot strip to access the dropdown Copy action. Multi-select with Shift or Cmd (macOS) / Ctrl (Windows) works across shoot strips, banners, and Day Breaks. The clipboard persists until you switch boards or schedules. Right-clicking an empty Sub-Board shows Paste instead of Copy.
      • Right-click a strip, hover over Insert Daybreak or Insert Banner, and choose Above or Below. With multiple strips selected, the last-selected strip determines insertion position.
      • The TOTAL STRIPS checkbox is now a VIEW dropdown containing Total Strips, Banners, and Shoot Day checkboxes. All three are checked by default.
      • A Shoot Day strip appears above each daybreak showing the production's shoot-day count. The Shoot Day and its daybreak move together.
      • Move To: when a Sub-Board list exceeds 8 items, a scrollbar appears so the full list remains visible.
      • Pasting strips into an empty Sub-Board or Boneyard focuses the first (top) strip of the pasted group.
      • D/N appears by default in the Board, One-line Schedule, Shooting Schedule, and Daily Category designers.
  • DOOD Enhancements (MMS6 Parity)

    • Horizontal Layout: Switch to a horizontal orientation for wide-format printing or side-by-side review using the new Switch view icon.
    • How It Works:
      • The Switch view icon at the top of the DOOD tab switches between the default vertical view and a horizontal layout.

    Note

DOOD sorting continues to behave as it does today. The multi-level SORT control originally planned for 10.13 has been pulled and will ship together with its functionality in 10.13a.

  • Element Details (MMS6 Parity)

    • Working Dates in Context: A new Days & Dates tab in the Edit Element modal shows shoot days and specific working dates for any element on the active Sub-Board, without opening the DOOD tab.
    • Element Date in Reports: A new Element Date field in the Element Details Report lists all of an element's working dates in a comma-separated sequence, ready for distribution paperwork.
    • How It Works:
      • Open any Element's Edit modal and click the Days & Dates tab to see shoot day sequence numbers and specific working dates for the active Sub-Board.
      • Add Element Date to the Element Details Report designer to display all of an element's working dates, comma-separated, using the system date format.
  • Reusable Element Daily Quantities

    • Accurate Daily Totals: Extras groups, background, and other reusable resources count once per day instead of multiplying across scenes.
    • Per-Sheet Control: Default behavior is unchanged. Uncheck Use In Daily Qty only on the sheets where an Element is reused.
    • How It Works:
      • Each Element row on the Breakdown Sheet includes a Use In Daily Qty checkbox, checked by default.
      • Uncheck the box to flag an Element as reused across multiple scenes in the day. The Element still appears in the per-strip list by name and quantity, but does not contribute to the Day Break category count.
      • Day Break totals, one-line schedules, PDF exports, and print outputs all respect the flag.
  • Merged Multi-Unit One-Line Schedule Export

    • One Document for the Whole Production: Shoot days from all selected units appear in calendar-date order in a single PDF.
    • Clear Unit Labeling: Each unit's strips within a shared date are preceded by a unit banner, and each unit has its own End of Day #N [unit name] row.
    • Filter by Element: Narrow the export to scenes containing specific cast, props, or other Elements.
    • How It Works:
      • The export dialog shows a checkbox list of all Sub-Boards in the active Stripboard. All are selected by default (Boneyard excluded). Select All and None shortcuts are available.
      • Multiple Sub-Boards produce a single PDF with shoot days ordered by calendar date. A date that exists in only one unit shows only that unit's strips, with no empty Day Break rows for the others.
      • An optional element filter uses a searchable category-and-element accordion. Shoot days with no matching scenes drop entirely.
      • Selecting a single Sub-Board with no element filter produces the same output as the single-board export from earlier releases.
  • Advanced Find and Replace: One-Click Expand and Collapse

    • Expand to Split Screen: A new magnifying-glass-with-plus icon on the Board and Breakdown screens opens Advanced F&R in split-screen view in one click.
    • Collapse to Single Screen: A new Collapse icon on the left pane returns you to single-screen view in one click. Running Advanced F&R alongside your Board or Breakdown was already available; what's new is the one-click expand and collapse.
    • Collapse Works for Any Split-Screen View: The same Collapse icon is available in any split-screen layout, not only Advanced F&R, so the one-click return applies consistently across the app.
    • Safer Blank Replace: Replacing Elements, I/E, D/N, and other non-text fields with blank now unlinks them from the sheet instead of leaving broken blank values.
    • Category Name Protection: Clearing a Category name now prompts for confirmation so you don't accidentally break Category associations.
    • How It Works:
      • Click the magnifying-glass-with-plus Advanced Search icon on the Board or Breakdown screens to open Advanced F&R in split-screen view. The three-line menu method still works.
      • Launching from the Board opens a Board || F&R split. Launching from any other screen opens a Breakdown || F&R split. The Collapse icon on the left pane returns to single-screen view.
      • Strips can be dragged from the Board to Calendar cells in the Calendar || Board split. Strips can also be dropped into empty Sub-Boards or the Boneyard directly from split-screen views.
      • Blank Replace on non-text fields unlinks the field from the sheet. Text fields blank as expected. Clearing a Category name shows a Cancel/Continue warning.

    • How It Works:

    • Department-Focused Planning: View only the roles you're coordinating at any given time to spot availability issues faster.

      • Use the Category dropdown to select or deselect categories (Cast, Stunts, Vehicles, etc.). Only strips with elements from selected categories appear on the calendar.
      • Narrow further by selecting specific elements within your chosen categories. The element list updates dynamically based on your category selection.
      • Filters are specific to the current sub-board and persist until you close the schedule.

      • Category and Element options are hidden when the sub-board is set to Boneyard.

    • Filtered Views and Export: Filter the Red Flag Manager by element and export the active view to PDF.
    • How It Works:
      • Flagged elements display a red flag icon in the Elements tab.
      • Open the Edit Element modal to see a "Red Flags" section showing start/end dates, flag type, and notes for that element's flags.
      • In the Red Flag Manager, use the new element typeahead with checkboxes to filter the table to specific elements. Select "All" to see everything, or narrow to individual cast or crew.
      • Save or print the active red flags view (filtered or unfiltered) as PDF for offline reference and crew distribution.
  • Find & Replace Improvements

    • Search by Scene Length: Find scenes within specific screen time or page count ranges to locate scenes that match production criteria.
    • Edit Inline Without Switching Tabs: Update element names, categories, synopses, and breakdown fields directly from Find & Replace results.
    • How It Works:
      • Search for scenes by screen time ranges and page counts. Combine these with field-specific searches for precise results.
      • Edit element names, categories, and breakdown-specific fields directly from search results without leaving the Find & Replace view.
      • Operator and AND/OR selections are now standard dropdowns instead of typeaheads.
      • "Select All" is available in dropdown lists for faster bulk selection.
      • The Clear button is renamed to Reset for consistency across the application.
      • The New Sheet tab is grayed out while Advanced Find & Replace is active.
  • Calendar/Board Split-Screen

    • Visual Rescheduling Side by Side: View your calendar and board together and drag strips between them to reschedule shooting days.
    • Faster Schedule Adjustments: Move scenes between shooting days without switching between tabs.

    • How It Works:
      • Select strips on the Board, then use the print option.
      • Choose whether to include day breaks and banners alongside your selected strips.
      • Print directly or export to PDF.
  • Reports Improvement
